Ancora ossessionato dal pensiero del dittatore, affronta il tema scottante del contrasto fra l'utile e l'onesto, fra l'interesse e la rettitudine. Questa opposizione, capace di influenzare tanto la vita quotidiana quanto i grandi eventi storici, è in realtà solo apparente e nasce quasi sempre da motivi assai poco nobili. Still haunted by the thought of the dictator, tackles the burning issue of the contrast between the useful and the honest, between the interest and righteousness. This opposition, able to influence daily life as the great historical events, is in fact only apparent and is almost always for reasons not very noble. Cicero demonstrates this with numerous examples, drawing the best from the moral teachings of the philosophies of the time and always having as a reference the four fundamental virtues (prudence, justice, courage, temperance).
