Women in charge. Artiste inuit contemporanee. Ediz. italiana, inglese e francese: I mutamenti radicali intervenuti nelle società inuit dell'Artico canadese, la scoperta della loro arte nel 1948 e i maggiori contatti con la controparte canadese sono all'origine dell'espressione artistica delle donne inuit, favorendone l'affrancamento dal ruolo di supporter del cacciatore. La grafica delle artiste di Cape Dorset trasmette in maniera aperta aspirazioni e valori legati al vissuto e memorie "tradizionali" e all'incontro con lo straniante habitat urbano, configurando "dinastie" artistiche che si tramandano di madre in figlia. Da tempo valorizzati dal mercato canadese e internazionale, disegni e stampe vengono per la prima volta presentati in Italia da una mostra al Museo Nazionale Preistorico Etnografico "Luigi Pigorini" e dal volume corredato dalle biografie delle artiste. The radical changes occurring in the Canadian Arctic inuit society, the discovery of their art in 1948 and increased contacts with the Canadian counterpart are the source of artistic expression of inuit women, promoting their emancipation from the role of supporter of the Hunter. The graphics of the artists of Cape Dorset transmits openly aspirations and values tied to lived and "traditional" memories and encounter with the alienating urban habitat, configuring "dynasties" of art that are handed down from mother to daughter. Long valued by the Canadian and international market, drawings and prints are presented for the first time in Italy by an exhibition at the National Museum of prehistory and Ethnography "Luigi Pigorini" and volume with biographies of the artists.
